Books to study forensic medicine in mbbs 2nd year
Forensic medicine is the easiest and least important subject in mbbs 2nd year. It is all about the laws and offences. Students usually read it during exam times because during whole year, we have to study other more important and difficult subjects like pharmacology and pathology. Even during your practical classes of forensic medicine, you will be less serious as compared to other subjects and you will enjoy. Toxicology is little more difficult than forensic part. I will suggest books for both parts separately.1. RAJESH BARDALE
I would suggest this book as a standard book. It's important thing that I like is that it contains content in easily understandable language. The concepts are explained in as simplest languages as possible. You will feel that you are reading a story book rather than a MBBS book. Its diagrams are awasome and it contains awasome flow charts. Many students don't know about this book much but believe me, it's a wonderful book.
Its special feature is that it is fully colourful book and contains a no. of real pictures of every topic that are not given in any book like that of postmortem appearances like in drowning, hanging, burns etc. which help us to know how it really looks like. So, it helps you to understand the concept rather than just rattafying it. As we know that a picture can retain in our mind for longer time than text. So, this makes the subject interesting. In my final exams, I was remembering the pictures given in the book while answering the question and rest points, I was forgetting. This makes this book different from other books. Content given is also accurate and in detail.
2. GAUTAM BISWAS
It's also a good book. Content is very nicely presented and is ideal for exam purposes but the language is somewhat difficult and complex as compared to Bardale. And nor it contains such real pictures and good diagrams. So I felt some difficulty in understanding its language. But overall, I will say that it is a very good book. It helped me a lot for exams. So, you can definitely take it as a reference book after Rajesh bardale.
3. KRISHAN VIJ
It's also a good book just like Biswas. I did some topics from it like perjury, hostile witness and suspended animation etc. are explained good in it. and various other topics are also there. So, take it as a reference book for the topics that you are not able to understand from other books.
4. PARIKH
Many students use it as a standard book. They found it very informative and easy to learn as it is thin and very helpful for exams. But I don't know much about this book because I don't studied it. I would greatly recommend you to use it as a reference book as it is highly liked by many students.
5. NARAYAN REDDY
Though it is known as the standard book of forensic medicine but its too much difficult. The content given in this, you will understand during your MD. It is just like ganong of physiology that you studied in your 1st year. Its language is very difficult and complicated. So if you will study it, then you may feel that the subject is difficult and you may develop hatred for the subject. So you can read it if you are really interested to study in much detail but for exam purposes, never study it.
TOXICOLOGY
GUATUM BISWAS
I will suggest it as a standard book for toxicology because in Rajesh bardale, toxicology is not given properly. It is given in concise way. So you can't make good concepts by reading Rajesh bardale.
The content of Gautam Biswas is excellent. You will get detailed knowledge of topics by reading this book. Moreover, it contains mnemonics for the actions of various poisons that help a lot to remember during exam. It contains colour plates of poisons in front that are very helpful in practicals. It also contains the list of important questions and viva questions. So, it become the perfect book for toxicology.
V.V. PILLAY
This book contains only toxicology part. It is a good reference book for toxicology. It contains many pictures and diagrams that help us to visualise it rather than rattafying it. The content is in full detail. So you can easily understand it. But, take care that at many places, the content is given in too much depth that it becomes undigestable for the student. I studied phosphorus , snake effects and other topics from it.
Krishna Vij is also helpful for toxicology. I recommend you to have its PDF file in your mobile.
You can also take help of small books that you can find in library that contains everything in concise and notes wise manner.
At last, I would like to say thanks for reading my article. Comment below any queries or suggestions regarding this post.
