Books to study PSM in mbbs new final

PSM  is the main subject of MBBS new final year. It is a bulky subject. There are a lot of chapters in it. Many chapters are even quite boring and you will feel really exhausted reading it. And many chapters are even difficult like national programmes ( from my view) that you will feel some problems.

But overall , I will say that it is a easy subject because of the fact that it don't have such pin pointing concepts like in other subjects like pathology, opthalmology, pharmacology etc. So you can even write on your own also in the exams. So make a habit of reading parks everyday in your new final. Because if you study at time of exams , then you will feel a lot of problem.

1. PARKS

Parks is a standard book of community medicine. Every student must have this book. It is the Bible of PSM. Even it has a great historical background. That is our past generations also used to study this book. It is quite thick. But don't get scared by its thickness because if you makes a habit of studying it everyday, then you can easily complete it till exams.

 This is really a wonderful book and is student friendly. It contains all the topics that we require for our exams and in complete and relevant content. No topic is missing. Even the language is also good. So students can easily make good concepts and recapitulate it in exams. Everything is written in big paragraphs. That is the main disadvantage of this book. So many a times you will feel like you are reading a story book. So just read it thoroughly and underline the important points.

This book is also helpful for pg entrance exam preparation. Even many questions in pg exams are asked directly from this book. One thing that you need to keep in consideration while buying it is that always buy it's latest edition. If it's latest edition is about to come, then wait till it comes. This is because in every edition, this book thickens and data is updated. Even in your university exams, questions may come from the latest data and health programmes like Swachh Bharat abhiyan, poshan abhiyan, niti ayog, Ayushman Bharat etc. So you have to keep this in consideration.

2. SURYAKANTA

This is also a good book. The thing that I like about this book is that it's language is so easy and understandable that you will feel very comfortable with this book. Even you will be able to understand the concept in a good way. In parks, the language is a little bit tough and there are many places in which it becomes very different to digest it ( like growth chart. I can't understand anything in parks and even national health programmes also). So In that cases, suryakanta can helps you. This book helped me a lot to pass my exams. So I would greatly suggest it as a reference book.

3. MAHAJAN

It is a good alternative to parks. It also explains the concepts in a good way and is student friendly. So you can use it as a reference book and for the topics that you can't understand from parks. Like if I talk about my experience, I studied a lot of topics from this book like IDSP etc. and RNTCP is also presented in a good way.

4. SUNDERLAL

It is not much helpful because the content displayed in this book is not in a good manner. As compared to parks, this book is inferior. But you can use it as a reference book. I studied growth chart and few other topics from it.

5. VIVEK JAIN

This book is mainly for the pg exam preparation for MCQ purposes. But for theory purposes, it is not a good book. This is because it contains everything in concise manner and in point wise manner and its content is so less that you can't get good marks by studying this book . Moreover you can't make good concept from it. So my suggestion is to just avoid it.


After that, you can take help of other short books from your library like Asma Rahim etc . They may be helpful for you for your exams.
