Important topics in physiology for mbbs exams :Central nervous system
CNS in my opinion is the most toughest and lenghy chapter in whole physiology and also occupies good weightage in exams. So pay special attention to this chapter.
Here are written the list of important topics of chapter CNS in physiology that are expected to come in exams. hope it helps you.

Must read - Books to study physiology in mbbs 1st year

1. Electrical events at synapse is imp. EPSP and IPSP and thier ionic basis.

2. Inhibition of synapses- Postsynaptic and presynaptic are v. imp. Read it from Indu khurana. You will find there easier.

3. Properties of synapses is also imp. Occlusion and subliminal fringe should be cleared.

4. Read cutaneous receptors and Weber Fechner law

5. Properties of receptors are also v.imp. Phantom limb can itself come as a short note.

6. Stretch reflex is a v.v. imp topic. Read it fully. The structure and innervation of muscle spindle should be cleared along with diagram. Functions also .

7. Muscle tone, properties of reflexes and Inhibition of stretch reflex are also imp. Polysynaptic reflex can also come in exams But it less imp.

8. Diagram of cs of spinal cord showing major ascending tracts and sensations is imp.

9. Pain receptors, neural pathways for pain and referred pain are imp. Inhibition of pain is again v. imp.

10. Corticispinal tract is not imp but it came in our final exam as 10 marks question !!! we all were looking at each others faces and noone knows it. So I will suggest to have a brief overview of pyramidal and extrapyramidal tracts.

11. Difference between lower and upper motor neuron lesion is a blockbuster question. Even in vivas it is a frequently asked question by examiners.

12. Difference between sympathetic and parasympathetic system and thier actions.

13. Brown sequard syndrome is the next blockbuster question. Even in vivas it is asked.

14. Decerebrate rigidity is v.imp. Difference between intercollicular and ischaemic decerebration is imp.

15. Connections and functions of cerebellum are again v. imp. I found them little tricky so I studied from sembulingum.
Cerebellar dysfunction is again imp.

16. Functions of thalamus and thalamic syndrome is also v imp.  Read from sembulingum

17. EEG is again v. imp. The 4 EEG rhythms should be cleared. Physiological source of EEG and it's uses. Epilepsy comes as a separate question.

18. Sleep is again v.v. imp topic. Differences between REM and NREM is very frequent.

19. Functions and connections of basal ganglia is v. imp. Written good in sembulingum. The flow chart is very imp.

20. Parkinsonism is again v. imp. It's features, causes, pathogenesis

21. Functions of hypothalamus are imp. Again stick to sembulingum.

22. Speech pathways, Mechanism of speech and speech disorders are imp.

If you studied these topics, you are ready for your exam. please comment below any query or reviews about this post.
