Books to study biochemistry in mbbs 1st year

Biochemistry is the most easiest subject of MBBS 1st year. Students generally don't study it during the year because they have to study a more important and difficult subject during the year that is anatomy. So they study it in exam times. Even for pg entrance exam purposes also, it is less important. But you make find it difficult as the cycles of amino acid metabolism and carbohydrate and fatty acid metabolism are somewhat difficult to remember.

It may sound you as less important but you will know about its real importance during subsequent years when you will study subjects like medicine. Because the concepts of biochemistry act as base for them.

1. SATYANARAYAN

It is the standard book of biochemistry for indian medical students. It is the simplest book and contains content displayed in headings and points and in a way that you can easily remember and recaptulate in exams. Tables and flow charts are given wherever necessary. Cycles are displayed in good way. So it is an exam oriented book. You can take help of YouTube videos like kalpan video lectures to understand it's concepts. Revise the cycles by drawing it again and again so that you can retain it.  Personally i studied only this book mainly because you don't get much time for biochemistry to follow multiple books.

2. VASUDEVAN

It is also an Indian author book. So, it is also helpful for Indian students. You can use it as a reference book for the topics that you can't understand from Satyanarayan. As there are many topics that are written best here. But it's way of presentation of the content is not much good and also, it is not nicely organised. It lacks the continuity that is content of one topic is scattered in many chapters. So you may feel this difficulty here. Never use it as standard book

3. LIPPINCOTT

It is a foreign author book. Its advantage is that it's language is very easy. It also have good diagrams and excellent charts and tables. The concepts are displayed in simple language. Moreover, it has tables at the end of every chapter that summaries the whole chapter. So, it can be very helpful to understand the concepts .But still, many important topics are not explained properly and many are even missing. So, use it as a reference book.

4. HARPER

It is also a foreign author book and is internationaly accepted. It is a high level book and is considered as Bible of biochemistry. It has very beautiful diagrams and detailed information. The language is also difficult and tough to read. It takes much time to read the topics in this book. But you can use it if you have special interest in biochemistry for concept building and gaining knowledge. Even it is also helpful for pg exam preparation. But for university exams, i would not recommend you this book.

5. S.K. GUPTA

This book is used by many proffesors. Our professor recommended us this book. But personally, I don't studied this book. So, I don't know much about this book. But I had heard that this book contains content with detailed explanation and is beautifully described and also, is helpful for exams. So you may read this book.
