Books to study opthalmology in mbbs new final
Ophthalmology is a subject of MBBS new final year. It is a conceptual subject and you need to understand the concepts in order to learn it. You can't write in exams by just rattafying it. Students find it somewhat difficult because it's concepts are somewhat difficult to understand. Especially the chapters like glaucoma and cataract are very conceptual and requires a good concept building in order to learn it. Though it is difficult, but I found this subject interesting because it just focus on only one part of our body that is eye. Even we can relate it to our life also like the refractive errors like myopia and hypermetropia etc.
1. AK KHURANA
Khurana is the standard book of opthalmology used by every student of Indian medical college. It contains everything in good presented way and also contains appropriate diagrams wherever neccesory. As opthalmology is a conceptual subject, so this book explains the concepts clearly. At the end, instruments, drugs used in opthalmology, lenses, clinical methods and procedures and other slides are given that are asked in viva. So it is also helpful for practical purposes.
The ideal strategy to study it is to firstly study the most important topics that aquire good weightage in exams like glaucoma, cataract, uveitis, blepharitis, cornea, refractive errors, conjunctivitis, lacrimal apparatus etc and after that read the less important chapters. When you will buy this book, you will get a additional concise book free that is basically a summary of Khurana book. So it can also help you.

2. PARSONS
It is a foreign author book.It is more detailed book and contains everything in full detail. Some students use it as a standard book but I would not suggest you to take it as a standard book. This is because it's language is so complicated and content is written in big paragraphs and there is no division into headings and not written in point wise manner. So it is not ideal book for an Indian medical student for university exams. If you study this book, you will not be able to understand anything and will feel a lot of difficulty in exams.
So use it as a reference book for those topics that you are not able to understand from Khurana as it contains detailed content. It is also helpful for pg entrance exam preparation.
3. RENU JOGI
It is a great book and i would strongly recommend it to students preparing for university exams. Reason being that it contains everything in point wise manner. You will get readymade notes and it will make the study so easy. Very nice diagrams are given in this that you can draw in exams. Read closed angle glaucoma from this book because it is given very nicely here and in a way that you can write in exams. So use it as a reference book
4.HV AND NITIN NEMA
This book is just like Khurana. Contains good content in paragraphs and good diagrams. So read this book along with Khurana and for those topics which you can't understand from Khurana. You can download it's PDF file in mobile.
At last I would like to say thanks for reading my post. All the best for your studies.
